The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has undertaken projects to develop 689 MW of grid-connected solar power by 2030 using its own financing, as the country moves to expand renewable energy generation.
The BPDB has submitted a detailed proposal for a 442-MW solar project at Rampal to the government for approval. It is also working on a 222-MW grid-connected solar photovoltaic project at Sonagazi in Feni, targeted for completion by 2028.
The state-owned power board has already installed 688 kWp of rooftop solar capacity using its own funds between November 2025 and Sept. 12, 2026. Another 4,195 kWp of rooftop and grid-connected solar capacity is expected to come into operation by December this year.
The projects are being developed on unused BPDB rooftops and land and are intended to help reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels while supporting Bangladesh’s renewable-energy and climate commitments.
