The Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) fined, during different drives conducted recently, three commercial establishments and two residential houses Tk 6.29 million for stealing electricity and evading payment of tax.
The DPDC's special taskforce, set up for establishing good governance, increasing revenue and combating corruption, fined them after detecting incidents of stealing around 2,00,000 units of electricity in the drives conducted in Narayanganj and the city's Kakrail area, said a DPDC press release.
The taskforce fined 40 industrial, commercial enterprises and households about Tk 37.8 million during different drives conducted in last three months. The drives also unearthed incidents of stealing of around 1.4 million units of electricity.
Under the supervision of a joint secretary of the government and the company secretary of the DPDC Joyonto Kumar Shikder, the taskforce is composed of engineers and administrative officers of the company.
