IDCOL and the Department of Chemical Engineering (DChE) at BUET unveiled the IDCOL-DChE, BUET ICS Laboratory on October 27, 2025, at the BUET campus in Dhaka. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr. Alamgir Morshed, Executive Director & CEO of IDCOL, Md. Enamul Karim Pavel, Head of Renewable Energy at IDCOL, and Professor Shoeb Ahmed, Ph.D., Head of the, Md. Mominur Rahman, Ph.D., Professor DChE, BUET along with faculty members, students, and senior officials from both institutions.
The laboratory's primary focus is to assess particulate and gaseous air pollutant emissions, energy efficiency, safety, and durability of cookstoves following the ISO19867-1:2018 Harmonized Laboratory Test Protocols for Clean cookstoves and clean cooking solutions. This collaboration between IDCOL and BUET aims to address the critical need for a globally recognized testing facility. Once ISO-certified, the lab will facilitate carbon credit registration for clean cooking projects in Bangladesh.
This endeavor marks a significant achievement within IDCOL’s Improved Cook Stove (ICS) Program, dedicated to reducing indoor air pollution, enhancing public health, and curbing carbon emissions. Since its launch in 2013, the program has successfully distributed over 4 million ICS units in rural households nationwide.
Mr. Alamgir Morshed expressed, “The inauguration of this laboratory signifies a pivotal step towards providing cleaner, safer, and more efficient cooking solutions for countless households. It underscores our dedication to innovation, collaboration, and climate resilience.”
Professor Shoeb Ahmed shared, “We take pride in our partnership with IDCOL to establish this vital infrastructure. Beyond testing and certification, the lab will promote research and skill development in clean energy technologies.”
