The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has asked the power and energy divisions to ensure supply of imported LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) to Khulna and the country’s south-western region by 2021.
The instruction came up at a recent meeting at PMO with Prime Minister’s Power and Energy Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury in the chair.
The Energy and Mineral Resources and the Power Division will coordinate the matter as the state-owned North West Zone Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL) will build a LNG based power plant in Khulna.
The PMO also asked the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to discuss the issue with the Indian energy giant H-Energy which will supply the LNG through pipeline. H-Energy has recently proposed to sign a gas sales agreement (GSA) for supplying re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to Bangladesh.
