DHAKA, July 22, 2019 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said CNG filling stations will remain open round the clock for 10 days from a week before the Eid-ul-Azha.

“Heavy vehicles will be off the road for three days before and three days after Eid. Vehicles carrying perishable commodities, garments and drugs will be allowed to ply,” he told a press conference on contemporary issues at his ministry’s office at the secretariat.

Quader, also Awami League General Secretary, said the government will help garment workers by providing them with BRTC buses. Garment owners have also been asked to grant them Eid holidays in phases, he added.

The minister said roads in the flood affected areas were damaged. Those damaged roads are being repaired urgently, he added.

He said there is no possibility of any problem on highways during the Eid as the highways remain in good condition.

The minister said orders were sent to concerned authorities so cattle markets are not set up indiscriminately and two city corporations in Dhaka were also requested to see that cattle markets are not set up near roads.

About mass beating on suspicion of child kidnapping, Quader said he talked to the home minister in this regard and the home minister informed that tough measures have been taken to check recurrence of such incidents.

He said stern actions will be taken against those who are involved with the incidents of mass beating. Investigations are going on to reveal whether there is any provocation or ulterior political motive behind the incidents, he added.

About Priya Saha episode, he said they want to take decision on her after knowing it full well. She will have to explain why and on the basis of which data she made complaints to US President Donald Trump as her remarks created confusion in the entire the country, he said.

Asked about Priya Saha’s husband, Quader questioned why husband will take the responsibility of any wrongdoing of his wife.
