“A huge investment is needed for completion of the ongoing development works in due time,” Nasrul Hamid said while taking part in the panel discussion on ‘The Future of the Belt and Road initiative’ of the World economic Forum at Dalian, China, said a press release.

The state minister said the Belt and Road Initiative, China, could be the platform for investment, said Nasrul, adding this initiative has already attracted Japan, India, the USA along with other countries to Bangladesh.

He said the Chinese initiative is good for Bangladesh but it requires action plan, sharing of technology, cultural unification, transparency and appropriate publicity for making the venture more effective.

Nasrul, to this end, mentioned that Japan formulated Master Plan for Power sector before investing $6.5 billion for a project in Bangladesh and China can move with the action plan.

“China has enough opportunity for investment in power sector in Bangladesh. Five projects are being implemented under Chinese Export Credit Agency investment while six joint venture projects are going on,” he said.

The state minister said Chinese contractors are involved with 31 ongoing projects of power division, adding, “Two projects out of seven under Government to Government method with Chinese government have been approved.”

Moderated by Tian Wei of China Global Television Network (CGTN), the panel was also discussed among others, by senior fellow of China Renmin University Bruno Macaes, Chairman of Chinese National Building Material Group Song Zhiping and Executive Secretary of economic Commission of UN Europe Affairs Olga Algayerova.
