Russia and China have signed the final acceptance statement yesterday, January 20, confirming transfer of the nuclear island at Unit 3 of Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant (TNPP) to the China for operation. The Unit 3 was built with Russian design and assistance went in to commercial operation in 2018.

 

Director General of Russia’s state atomic energy corporation Rosatom Alexey Likhachevmet and Head of the Atomic Energy Agency of China, Zhang Kejian were present at the signing ceremony held at the Tianwan NPP in Jiangsu Province of China. Alexey Bannik, Vice President in charge of projects in China, ASE, engineering division of Rosatom and Zhang Yi, Deputy General Director of Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation signed the deal.

 

Today, all 4 power units of Tianwan NPP with Russian-designed VVER-1000 are operating efficiently at their normal capacity level. Power units 1 and 2 at Tianwan NPP started their guarantee operation in 2007. Units 3 and 4 were put in to commercial operation in 2018.

 

Pointing out that commercial operation of power units3 and 4 started ahead of the schedule Aleksey Likhachev said, “Tianwan NPP is a vivid example of the highest level of kills of Russian and Chinese nuclear engineers, the best confirmation of the synergy of each and every employee’s personal and professional contribution.”

 

Alexey Likhachev and Zhang Kejian also visited the site allocated for the construction of new units 7 and 8 at Tianwan NPP, which are to be equipped with the latest Gen3+ Russian VVER-1200 reactors. The First Concrete pouring at power unit 7 is scheduled for December 2020, five months ahead of schedule.

 

Tianwan NPP is the largest facility built within the framework of the Russian-Chinese economic cooperation. At present, the station comprises 4 power unites equipped with Russian VVER-1000 reactors. On March 7, 2019, in Beijing, Russia and China signed the general contract for construction of units 7 and 8 at Tianwan NPP. In accordance with that, Russia will design the nuclear island and supply key equipment for these two units.
