DHAKA, Nov 11, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said awareness is very essential for ensuring energy efficiency as well as conservation.

 

“We have to make the people aware about energy efficiency because for the greater interest of the nation. Our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always switches on herself while entering into the office and switches off while leaving it ,” he said when formally inaugurating a two-day International Conference on ‘Energy Efficiency Conservation Awareness (EECA)’ as the chief guest at Sonargaon Hotel here this afternoon.

 

The state minister emphasized on creatingg awareness among the subscribers across the country, which can reduce electricity consumption and increase efficiency along with conservation while using their electric appliances.

 

Power Division Secretary Dr Ahmed Kaikaus and Charge d Affairs of embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany Burkhard Ducoffre spoke as the special guests among others.

 

Earlier, a two sessions were held in the conference where experts from home and abroad discussed on energy efficiency and conservation on global context. They highlighted current status of energy efficiency and said that subsidized energy would delay to ensure energy efficiency in the country.

 

Experts, however, said sector wise energy efficiency policy is needed … and those who will play significant role to ensure energy efficiency and conservation they have to encourage for their activities.

 

Director General of Power Cell Engineer Mohammad Hossain, head of Indo-German Energy Programme (IGEN) of GIZ India Dr Winfried Damm, Member of Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) Salima Jahan and Deputy Chief of Technical Advisor, NEEP, GIZ Newpal Dr Narayan Prasad Chaulagain joined the first session.

 

SREDA Member Siddique Zobair delivered the welcome speech and elaborately described about the conference saying the SREDA is holding the conference with the assistance of Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

 

A total of eight nations including the host Bangladesh joined the conference.
