DHAKA, Oct 31, 2019 (BSS) – Considering beautification of the capital city, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said overhead cables should be removed from electricity poles.

 

“Hanging or overhead cables created barricade to supply uninterrupted electricity in the city,” he said this while addressing an inter-ministerial meeting “Removal of overhead risky hanging cable is almost must now and COAB and ISPA should make efforts to provide their services using city underground system,” as the chief guest at Bidyut Bhaban.

 

The state minister said it is unexpected that Cable Operators’ Association of Bangladesh (COAB) or Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) office has been operating their activities putting power supply system in a risk.

 

“Operators under Nationwide Telecommunications Transmission Network (NTTN) are responsible to provide internet service through underground system. COAB should use these structures, but they use electricity poles instead of NTTN,” he said.

 

Nasrul said initiatives were taken to bring power distribution system of Dhaka city underground management, which is responsible for power duct, service providers, adding, “Information and entertainment service have the reached the doorsteps of people but putting the power distribution system brought under risk.”

 

The meeting also made directive to prepare a full working plan on areas where underground optical fibre facility is yet to be available along with GPS map list in the Dhaka city.

 

Among others, ICT secretary Ziaul Alam, Director General of Power Cell Engineer Mohammad Hossain, representatives from Power, Energy Division, LGRD, Housing and Public Works ministry. Road Transport and Highways, Bangladesh Telecommunications, Dhaka North and South City Corporations, Public Security Division and Petrobangla were present in the meeting.
