Bangladesh is on track to become one of the 32 countries of the world now producing nuclear power. India and Pakistan are successfully operating nuclear power plants for a while. And Bangladesh will be the third in South Asia, when the Russian made nuke power plant will go into operation. The work to implement the gigantic project is now going on in full swing. If everything goes well, electricity generation from 2X1200 MW Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will begin partly by 2023 and fully by 2024. By now, major work like land development, river training, construction of jetty, foundations for reactors, turbines, generators, core catchers are nearing completion. The huge work involving a few thousand people of different nationalities has created vibrancy in the once neglected area along the bank of Padma. The training for skilled workforce required for running the power plant is also going on with the help of Russian experts. There is no doubt the smart, qualified and trained Bangladeshi scientists, engineers and officials will be able to operate the power plant when the Russians will hand it over to Bangladesh. Whenever the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant comes into operation, it would be a dream coming true for Bangladesh.
