EP Report

The government has recently rejected a proposal for supplying natural gas to Bheramara 500-600MW dual fuel power plant.

The power plant will require about 100mmcfd of natural gas by 2022 to run the plant, owned by SKODA PRAHA of Czech Republic.

According to state owned Petrobangla, the supply of natural gas is dwindling fast and quite inadequate in the grid despite import of 600mmcfd of LNG.

At present, a total of six power plants to be run by natural gas and duel fuel are under construction. They have already received assurance of conditional gas supply from Petrobangla for feeding their plants.

The power plants also signed gas sales agreement (GSA) with Petrobangla for feeding their plants.  But, persisting gas crisis has already forced to shut down operations of a series of gas fired power plants having combined capacity to generate around 1200MW of electricity.

Recently, the Meghnaghat power hub has also been facing serious gas crisis to run most of its plants especially the public owned power plants in Siddhirganj and Haripur.
