Chinese technology firm Zhong Xing Telecommunication Equipment (ZTE) Corporation will install the country’s largest on-grid solar power plant in Chittagong with online monitoring system.

The online monitoring system will enable the power producer to maintain real time connections among sub stations and national grid.

To this end, the ZTE signed a deal with Power Development Board (PDB) for developing a 7.4 megawatt plant at Kaptai hydropower station, said a statement of ZTE Bangladesh. Asian Development Bank (ADB) is funding the project.

ZTE has already started implementing the power project as an EPC contractor and generating electricity in Rangamati District since April 2019

The project was selected as the winner by ADB-formed judge committee in the ‘Exemplary Innovation/High Technology’ category for implementing the first government-owned grid-tied solar power plant of Bangladesh.

Kaptai 7.4 MW Solar Power Plant is being developed in Kaptai Main Dam area in Rangamati. This plant will generate voltage by PV module DC which will be converted into 400V AC by an inverter.

The ZTE will also set up a sub-station which will be connected with 11kV transmission line. All the power will be connected with the control room by 11kV switchgear.

From this substation, BPDB will distribute power in the Kaptai and all of these will be connected with the national grid, according to the officials.

NWPGCL managing director Md. Khurshedul Alam and CMC chairman Ruan Guang signed the MOU from their perspective
