DHAKA, Mar 20, 2018 (BSS) - Ashuganj Power Station Company Limited (APSCL) yesterday signed a contract with two Chinese firms to set up a new Combined Cycle Power Plant with a capacity of 400 megawatt (MW).
The APSCL signed the agreement with China National Technical Import & Export Corporation (CNTIC) and China National Corporation for Overseas Economic Cooperation (CCOEC) Consortium at a city hotel.
APSCL managing director AMM Sajjadur Rahman, CNTIC chairman Tang Yi and chairman of CCOEC Hou Xuejun signed the contract on behalf of their respective sides.
Prime Minister's Power and Energy advisor Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, Chief Coordinator of SDG to the Prime Minister's Office Abul Kalam Azad, Power Division secretary Dr Ahmed Kaikaus and BPDB chairman Engr Khaled Mahmood were, among others, present on the occasion.
Speaking at the contract signing ceremony, Tawfiq-e-Elahi said the Chinese firms will set up a world-class power plant at Ashuganj.
Nasrul said the private sector has already invested Taka 12,000 crore in power sector and hoped that local and foreign investment would increase here in the future.
According to the agreement, the 400-MW power project will be completed by April, 2021, with an estimated cost of Taka 1,474 crore.
