   DHAKA, Feb 19, 2018 (BSS) - State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said effective plans to cut dependence on fossil fuel and use renewable energy sources in power generation are urgent to keep the world clean.

 

"We need new technology, innovations and ideas to execute these plans and programs for replacing energy from fuel-based production to solar-based production. Our talented students and teachers have to come up with their innovations in taking renewable energy programs to keep the world clean," he told a discussion.

 

Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) and Water Keepers Bangladesh jointly arranged the discussion titled, 'Renewable energy potentials in Bangladesh' at Jatiya Press Club in the capital.

 

Noting that there are a huge potential to invest in the country’s profitable energy sector, the State Minister said the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working for the country's overall development.

 

He asked students, teachers and researchers to take research initiatives utilizing the government research funds as the Prime Minister always encourage researchers in this regard.

 

Chaired by teacher of the Geology Department at Dhaka University (DU) Prof Badrul Imam, the discussion was addressed, among others, by professor of California University Daniel M Kammen, DU Energy Institute director and Bangladesh Solar Energy Society president Prof Saiful Huque, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficient Program (GIZ) coordinator Al Mudabbir Bin Anam , BAPA vice-president Prof Khondaker Bazlul Hoque, former director general of Power Cell BD Rahmatullah and Bangladesh Energy Network (BEN) chairman Dr Ahmed Badruzzaman.
