DHAKA, Feb 13, 2018 (BSS) - Energy adviser to the prime minister Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury here today said the new generation has to be involved in creative innovation being science enthusiastic to turn Bangladesh into a middle income country by 2021 and developed country by 2041.

 

"Our students have to come up with innovative ideas. We do not want to be the follower of the world but we want to be the torch bearer. We should raise our children for this," he said while addressing a three-day conference and exposition on renewable energy at the Senate Building of Dhaka University (DU) campus.

 

The Institute of Energy of DU and the Bangladesh Solar Energy Society (BSES) jointly organized the event titled "National Renewable Energy Conference and Green Expo-2018" aiming to cut reliance on non-renewable sources of energy and make Bangladesh energy autarky.

 

Speaking as the chief guest, Tawfiq said research is very important for the application of natural light as well as air and there is no alternative to this to keep the earth inhabitable.

 

Addressing as the chair, DU Vice Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzaman said, "We have to consider the sustainable, effective and environment-friendly technologies through exchanging views."

 

Director of the DU Energy Institute Saiful Huque, Chairperson of Energy and Power Research Council (EPRC) Shahin Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman of Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority  (SPEDA) Md Helal Uddin, among others, spoke on the occasion.

 

The event features seminars, art competition, debate competition, energy Olympiad at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban with a focus on sustainable energy management. The exposition is showcasing renewable energy technologies.
