DHAKA, Jan 28, 2018 (BSS) - Japanese prime minister's visiting special advisor Kentaro Sonoura today reaffirmed Tokyo's keenness to be Bangladesh's comprehensive development partner as he called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
"We value comprehensive partnership with Bangladesh," PMO spokesman Ihsanul Karim quoted Sonoura as saying during the call on at the premier's official Ganobhaban here.
The premier's press secretary said the Japanese dignitary particularly expressed his country's willingness for continued development cooperation in power and energy sector.
"Prime Minister Sinzo Abe desires to continue cooperation with Bangladesh in various sectors," Sonoura said.
Sonoura said the proposed Matarbari 1200 MW Ultra Super Critical Coal Fired Power Plant is a flagship project reflecting the development cooperation between the two countries in power sector.
He also referred to the strategic location of Matarbari and adjoining Sonadia as a suitable place for deep sea port but stressed the need preservation of Sonadia for ecological balance of the area.
Sonoura thanked the prime minister for the security measures taken by the government for protection of the Japanese and other foreign nationals working in various development projects in Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina welcomed Japanese investment is Bangladesh saying Japanese assistance would immensely help to achieve the development goals for economic prosperity.
She thanked Japan for giving support to implement the coal fired power project in Matarbari.
She said the government has taken all measure to give security to all foreign nationals including Japanese working in Bangladesh.
PM's advisor Dr Gowher Rizvi and Dr Towfiq Elahi Chowdhury, Principal Secretary Md. Nojibur Rahman and Chief Coordinator in the PMO on SDG Affairs Abul Kalam Azad were present.
