DHAKA, Jan 16, 2018 (BSS) - State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has suggested escalating the use of modern technologies with professionalism to build smart cities meeting the demand of power and water.

 

He made the suggestion while presenting a keynote paper on "The Future of Cities: Power and Water" at the conclusion ceremony of World Future Energy Summit (WFES) at Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to a message received here today.

 

"Initiatives have been taken to build smart cities using the modern technologies such as underground cable and substation, small transformer and prepaid meter," he said, adding that the Dhaka city is being modernized giving emphasize on energy, environment and equality.

 

"It is necessary to ensure meeting up the growing demand of the power and water aimed at continuing the upward trends of the growth and the development," he said.

 

"The use of LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) will be prioritized as primary energy in Bangladesh in the days to come and we are considering the usage of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) alongside the coal in producing power," he added.

 

"We have already taken a mega plan to ensue the economic use of the power and initiatives have already been taken to popularize the use of solar panel utilizing net metering and we are thinking of producing power at rooftops as it is possible to produce 1000 MW power on the roofs of buildings in the Dhaka city," he said.

 

Around 30,000 participants from 150 countries across the globe are taking part in the largest sustainability gathering in the Middle East "Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW)" which started on January 13 and will ends on January 20.

 

The week is dedicated to furthering the understanding of the major social, economic and environmental trends shaping the world's sustainable development, and to empowering the global community to realise viable and effective strategies to mitigate climate change.
