   SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 11, 2018 (BSS) - Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) has undertaken initiative to develop 108 wells for increasing supply of natural gas aimed at ensuring energy security and its production.

 

“Of the wells, the BAPEX would search 53 wells, dig 35 development wells and complete work of 20 wells to materialize vision-2021,” State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told in the House today.

 

Replying to a starred question from treasury bench member Abul Kalam Azad of Jamalpur-1, he said the gas supply was increased to 1,010 mmcfd during the present government’s tenure to accelerate economic growth and improve lifestyle.

 

Nasrul said a total of 1,000 mmcfd of liquefied natural gas (LNG) would be added into the national grid in April and October this year to meet the country's growing energy demand.

 

He said the state run Petrobangla signed agreements with Excelerate Energy Bangladesh Limited (EEBL) and Summit LNG Terminal Co. (Pvt.) Ltd for LNG to increase energy production side by side meet the growing demand.

 

“Five hundred mmcfd LNG and 500 mmcfd LNG would be added to the national grid in April and October this year through the two offshore terminals, which would be set up at Moheshkhali as per the agreements,” Nasrul added.
