ISHWARDI, Nov 30, 2017 (BSS) - Russia's state-run atomic energy body Rosatom's Director General Alexey Likhachev called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the office of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant here today.

The Rosatom top official paid the courtesy call on the premier before the inauguration of the first concrete pouring work on the much-awaited Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, the maiden nuclear plant of the country.

"At the meeting, Alexey Likhachev congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for undertaking initiatives for constructing the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant," PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters after the meeting.

Describing power as the key to economic uplift, the Rosatom director general said all the issues relating to the plant will be addressed.

Likhachev noted that India might join the project. The premier thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for extending assistance in the construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. "I'm happy to see that the mega project is being executed smoothly," she said.

Pointing out that Bangladesh has special relations with Russia, Sheikh Hasina recalled with profound respect Moscow's contribution to the Liberation War in 1971.
