   SANGSAD BHABAN, Nov 15, 2017 (BSS) - The government has already taken an  initiative to produce electricity from waste through scientific environment friendly waste management as well as to build an eco-friendly city.

 

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said this while replying to a query from treasury bench lawmaker M Abdul Latif of Chittagong-11 at the House here.

 

To this end, the state minister said the Power Development Board is implementing a pilot project for generating electricity from waste with a capacity of one-megawatt at Keraniganj and the activities of the project is now going on.

 

An agreement has been signed between the PDB and the Keraniganj Upazila Council for supplying a certain quantity of waste to the project, the state minister mentioned.

 

For generating power from waste, he said the feasibility study has already been completed at six municipalities.

 

In addition to this, it is under process to form a company comprising with PDB, DPDC, DESCO, Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation to generate power from the waste.
