Dhaka, Sept 15 (PR) - Dhaka and Jakarta have signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the energy sector of the two friendly countries.

State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid and Indonesian Power and Energy Minister Ignasius Jonan signed the MoU on behalf of the respective countries in Jakarta.

The state minister is now leading a Bangladesh delegation to Indonesia to discus bilateral cooperation between the two Muslim nations.

No detail of the deal was disclosed in the message received here from Jakarta.

Addressing the deal signing ceremony, Nasrul Hamid said Bangladesh will continue to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) for years to come as the power sector alone will require 1741 mmcfd gas in 2020 while 2705 mmcfd in 2025 and 2908 mmcfd in 2028.

He hoped that Indonesia will extend its cooperation to the energy sector, especially in the LNG sector.

The junior minister urged Indonesian entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh, saying there is a congenial environment in the country.
