The growing inequality won’t come down unless lives of people having impacts of climate change are improved, said PKSF Chairman Dr Kholiquzzaman Ahmad recently.

“We’ve to improve lives and livelihoods of people vulnerable to climate change. Otherwise inequality in the society cannot be reduced,” said the noted economist while speaking at a workshop on role of PKSF as direct access entity to Green Climate Fund (GCF) at PKSF auditorium.

For this, he called upon NGOs not to be confined only in traditional microfinance activities rather adjust work patterns to the changing needs for getting funds from the GCF.

He also suggested them preparing climate project proposals in line with GCF guidelines with a focus on national priorities like blue economy and women development.

“If you are keen on getting GCF funds, you’ve to think out of box and go beyond your traditional practices of providing micro credits,” he told NGO executives.

PKSF Managing Director Md Abdul Karim said the recognition of PKSF as a GCF listed entity will make adoption and implementation of climate impacts fighting projects easier and faster.

He informed that PKSF has already submitted four projects to GCF for approval. The projects will be implemented through PKSF’s partner organizations once they get nod.

ERD Additional Secretary Shahidul Islam was also present at the workshop, chaired by the PKSF chairman.
