The demand for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is increasing gradually in the country but a syndicate is trying to disrupt the stability in this thriving LPG sector to serve their immoral interest.

Due to the illegal gas bottling by this syndicate, consumers are being deceived while the reputed LPG companies are losing their reputation.

The government started providing LPG at retail level on a limited scale as an alternative energy 20 years ago in 1997. The demand for LPG had increased manifolds over the years as the government stopped provided piped gas.

To meet the growing demand, the government gave approval to around 50 private companies for LP gas import and now the demand stands to around eight lakh tonnes a year.

Taking advantage of a growing market, some dishonest companies started supplying low-standard LPG bottles. They have been supplying LPG bottles to the customers by illegally refilling gas into the bottles. Though the number of such malpractice is not widespread, this negative trend is affecting the reputation of the entire market.

As several incidents of LP Gas cylinder blasts have been noticed recently, the government sent letters to the LPG importers for staying alert in this regard.
