The government will launch an awareness campaign to prevent gas blasts during the use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The decision was taken at a meeting held at the Secretariat recently.

Nasrul Hamid, the state minister for power and energy, presided over the meeting. Representatives of the LPG Owners’ Association and officials of 12 energy companies were present.

Sources said officials of the Energy Division apprised the meeting that some recent accidents had injured more than 10. “With the help of some case studies, we see that users are not handling LPG bottles properly. They don’t have any information about how to handle the bottles. This causes mishaps,” they reported.

The minister said as the economy and sector is booming, people are interested in using LPG. “But if the users don’t know how to use them properly, accidents will happen in the future as well,” he observed.
