The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) stressed the need to focus on the environmental issue during the setting up of industries, as the country sees huge and fast-growing economic activities in its march towards development.

It also called upon the government to take necessary measures to establish sector-wise industries in specific regions and allocate lands for respective industries accordingly.

Leaders of the apex trade body made the observations at a meeting of the FBCCI standing committee relating to the ministry of environment, forest and climate changes at its board room recently.

Chairman of the committee Shahedul Islam Helal presided over the meeting while Director in-charge of the committee Hafez Harun-Or-Rashid presented the detailed plan of the committee at the meeting.

The trade body also emphasized the need to establish and monitor effluent treatment plants (ETPs) in the industrial zones to check environment pollution.

It also decided to set up an 'Environment Cell' in FBCCI to provide necessary information relating to environmental issues.
