   Munnia Char, a remote village surrounded by the Jamuna river in Jamalpur district, has finally got electricity connection thanks to a solar mini grid there.

 

Vincen Gtech Limited has set up the solar mini grid on five bighas of land at Munnia Char in Belgachha union in Islampur upazila at a cost of Tk. 8.81 crore.

 

Of the funds, Tk. 4.40 crore has been given as grant and Tk. 2.64 crore as loan by the Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) to construct the solar plant.

 

Vincen Gtech Limited began constructing the mini grid on December 30, 2016. It began to produce power around a year later on December 22, 2017.

 

Some 55 domestic and 43 commercial connections have been provided to consumers along with connections for an irrigation machine and a lathe machine. Besides, some consumers also run fridge and TV from the power.

 

Sources said 960 solar panels made in Germany were installed in the plant, which has a capacity of producing 249.6 KW of power. The economic life of the plant is 20 years, they added.
