EP Report

Business leaders at a meeting recently identified poor infrastructure and power shortages as some of the major obstacles investors are facing doing business in Bangladesh, despite the government's efforts to establish numerous power plants in past several years.

They said the government has huge success in producing power in recent years but consumers are staying away far from the benefits due to the problems relating to the transmission and distribution system.

Consumers are not getting benefits of 16000 MW electricity productions because of the inefficient management and poor Transmission and Distribution network, said business leaders. A major hurdle in efficient delivery of power is caused by the inefficient distribution system.

Chamber leaders and leading business made the accusation at a joint chambers meeting on “The secrets of Singapore’s amazing success and lessons for Bangladesh” at a hotel in Dhaka recently.

Canada-Bangladesh chamber of commerce and industry (CanCham) and Bangladesh Investment development authority (BIDA) jointly organized the event.
