Gazprom has signed a supplementary agreement with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) stating that its Power of Siberia pipeline will be supplying gas to China by December 2019.

The 3,000 km trunkline, which recently announced its construction was ahead schedule, will transport gas from the Irkutsk and Yakutia regions of Russia to China in accordance with the initial Sales and Purchase Agreement signed in 2014.

The signing ceremony was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, CNPC Board of Directors Chairman Wang Yilin and Gazprom Management Committee Chairman Alexey Miller.

“The signing of this document is a crucial step in the implementation of the project, a step achieved by Gazprom and CNPC thanks to clear and concerted action on both sides of the border,” said Dr Miller.

“Our work is strictly on schedule, even ahead of schedule regarding Power of Siberia. Russian gas supplies to China will come right on time.”
