Local power companies sought permission for import of clean high speed furnace oil (HFO) for use in electricity generation to ensure longevity of plants and equipment as well as maintaining safe and clean environment.
“We have already proposed the power division for importing clean furnace oil having 2 percent Sulphur content instead of existing 3.5 percent,” said Bangladesh Independent Power Producers Association (BIPPA) vice president Golam Rabanny.
He, however, pointed out that import cost of HFO would be a little bit higher, up by US$2-$6 per ton. “It’s a negligible amount in comparison to the cost of environment,” said the vice president.
In last month, the BIPPA officials met with principal coordinator of SDG Affairs Abul Kalam Azad over the issue.
Abul Kalam assured the power producers to raise the issue to policy level meeting.
